THIS IS MOMOFOKO
“Modernism - a cultural western movement during the late 19th and early 20th century in art, architecture, music and literature.” - Wikipedia
“Momoism - a playful idea of mixing high and low, electric and organic, exploding colors and
dance rhythms.” - Momofoko
This april “Momoism” – Swedish indie/electro pop act Momofoko’s first full-length album – was released simultaneously in Sweden, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Belgium, The Netherlands and Luxembourg. The album followed the single “What you want to hear” which was released March 4.
Momofoko play dance floor rock, a funky variation of pop, an electro take on rock, a funky six-piece living drum machine. The band has the ambition to follow in the footsteps of national heroes Robyn and Swedish House Mafia while still building on the pop foundation laid out by bands such as ABBA and The Cardigans.
“Momoism” contains ten songs and was produced and recorded during almost a full year in the studio together by the band and producer Anders Alexander of electro-clash quartet “Alice in Videoland”. Dance, rhythm and playfulness is the main focus when it comes to Momofoko and it shines through on this studio recording. Electric instruments, drum machines and synthesizers are mixed with congas and rhythmic funk guitars.
The album was released only days before the band went on tour in Germany. At the same time the video for “What you want to hear” was voted as number three on the German TV-station GoTV’s hit list. The success paved the way for an amazing tour which will be followed up by festival shows during the summer and yet another tour during the autumn. Momofoko recognizes this as a great opportunity to spread their danceable music and energetic live show.
The bands earlier production, the mini album “Not Now!...Now?” was also released in Sweden and a number of European countries. The only single “Control” was successful on radio, tv and the music press. For example it reached number one on the German TV-station Yavido’s “hot list”. The mini album was also given the crediting rating of 5/5 in what at the time was Sweden’s biggest music magazine: Groove Magazine.
